The Template

Notes.

Years and years and years ago, I had a dream, wherein the Universe ended, and I jumped out a door in my house, onto a small base of some sort, I don't remember it clearly, it might have been a rock, or a bit of cardboard, or something else. Whatever it was, I suppose it was about the size of a baseball base, home plate, let's say. I landed just as the Universe contracted around me, leaving me in total darkness. After that, a new Universe was born, and swept out around me. It all went very quickly, and I don't remember much except at one point being under an ocean, and there was plenty of light so I could see like fish or whatever around me. But that all swept past, and soon I was in my back yard. And that's pretty much all I remember. But years later, in 2003, I started writing a story based on this dream, on a board I went to occasionally. And I worked on the story sporadically. It's not finished yet. But it went far, far beyond the scope of the dream that inspired it. Unfortunately, at one point the entire ezboard system was hacked, and some of what I'd written was lost. So, when we get to that point, I'll have some notes about what little I remember of what vanished, then continue on with things I wrote after that.

I should mention, however, that the story is written, ostensibly, by a character of mine named Dave Road, who lives on a planet called The Land, in my series of Chaos books (or what will be a series eventually, I haven't even finished the first yet). But it isn't terribly important who's telling the story. People of the Land are familiar with other worlds, including Earth, though in Dave Road's time there's been no direct contact with other worlds, yet. Only information provided by spirits. Still, Dave has written the story somewhat with the perspective of a Terran. It's hard to say exactly, however, because it's meant to be unclear whether we (including Dave) are living in the former Universe of the story, or the latter. Or the third, for there will be another, in the end. Or we could be in any previous or future Universe. So, the history of the Land, and of Earth, might be completely different from anything we know, in the context of the story. And while there are elements similar to those we know on present Earth, that's to be expected, because of the Template storing all the data of every Universe, and reproducing things in new Universes.... I don't really intend to name the world on which the story is principally set, in any event.

Well, that's about all I can think to say, for now. No doubt I'll have more notes later. So, without further preamble...
